During Horse races, sometimes some horses are weighted or hampered in the race, and this is taken into account in the result.
“The race is not always to the swift, the battle is not always to the strong”.
In the race of life the distance alone does not determine the prize. We must take into consideration the hindrances, the weights we have carried, the disadvantages of education, of training, of surroundings, of circumstances.
In the pursuit of our dreams and aspirations, in our Christian race, some of us are weighted down with debt, with poverty, with the lack of support of parents or brothers and sisters, or friends. Some of us are bound by the chains of ignorance, hampered by inhospitable surroundings. Some of us are hindered in the race by being forced into educational programs that don’t match our talents. Some of us are delayed in our tracks because nobody believes in us, because nobody encourages us, because nobody sympathizes with us when we fail. There are still some of us who are crawling because we were never taught to help ourselves, but have been accustomed to lean upon our parent’s wealth. Yes some of us are weakened for the journey of life by self-indulgence, by dissipation, by “life-drainers”. Some of us are crippled by disease or illness.
When the prizes of life shall be finally awarded, the distance we have run, the weights we have carried, the handicaps, will all be taken into account. Not the distance we have run only, but the obstacles we have overcome, the disadvantages under which we have made the race, will decide the prizes.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness…Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised those who love him.”( James 1:2,3,12)
No matter what challenges or set- backs you are facing right now, do not give up. Keep pushing. Your reward shall be great.
