Why Go On?

Life is filled with troubles. Today, in all parts of the world, almost everyone is touched by one sort of challenge, difficulty, tragedy, or the other. Sometimes, these challenges are so severe that some of us feel utterly hopeless about life, we see no light at the end of the tunnel, and ask ourselves – Why go on in life?

If this is the case with you right now, I want you to know there is hope, just as the Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:8;  “We are hard-pressed in every way, but not cramped beyond movement; we are perplexed, but not absolutely with no way out.” You see, I believe that no matter how distressing or difficult your situation is right now, it can change for the better. Even if you’re your situation seem permanent, or irreversible, for example; suppose you have a terminal illness, or you have lost a loved one – even in these conditions, you can still change your outlook and attitude towards your situation.

While it may be difficult, it is important to develop a positive mental attitude because, “A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day…A miserable heart means a miserable life; a cheerful heart fills the day with song.” – Proverbs 15: 13, 15. With a positive attitude, we can learn to accept the things we cannot change, and develop ways to cope with our conditions rather than look for drastic ways to end it or give up on life.

Sometimes, for most of the challenges we face in life, all that is required of us is patience; which we often seem to lack when faced with difficulties. We need to remember that “You cannot scale a mountain in a single step; however, you can take on the challenge one step at a time.” No matter how mountain-like our challenges might seem, with patience and perseverance, we can overcome them.

  1. I’m a firm believer in not giving up even when the road gets tough. Although I’m not perfect and never will be, things do get better.

It ain’t over until God says it’s over! When you’re in a ‘why go on’ situation’, keep the faith until God shows up. Not always easy, but often the best respond to tough times. Thanks Vincent! Grace and peace. Greg
