Let Nobody Stop You!

“A young house wife decides to take knitting lessons so she can knit sweaters, kaftans, and all sorts of things. She gets a book and the needles and yarn and starts to learn the simplest knitting steps, full of visions of brightly coloured mittens and clothes. Then her husband comes home from work and tells her how hard it is to knit, how she’ll have to work years to be any good at it, how many women have started and quit. He gives her one of those patented, patronizing smiles that says, “You will never learn to knit very well you poor thing.” And before he has left the room she is believing more in his cynicism than in her faith.”

Folks this story represents the various scenarios that take place in our lives at one point or the other when we set out to realize our dream. You see the major reason why so many of us let our dreams die – unrealized, and unlived is because of the negative, sarcastic, and cynical attitudes of other people – especially our friends, family, colleagues etc. You have a dream, and seek out a friend, or family member for advice and instead of them helping you out positively, they release a “foot-long” list of all the obstacles, and reasons why you will fail, why you shouldn’t pursue your dreams. You leave them feeling so unmotivated, sick, and foolish for ever conceiving such ideas or dreams.

In the pursuit of your dreams, “the easiest thing to find on God’s green earth is someone to tell you all the things you cannot do.” (Richard Devos). Someone will be eager to point out to you many, many reasons why you will fail, they will even show you other people who have failed. Don’t listen to them. Don’t let their doubts stop you – let it fire you up to go on and make them eat their words.

“It is always the fellow who has never made ten thousand dollars a year, who knows all the reasons why you can’t make thirty thousand dollars.” If you have a dream, dare to believe and try it. Don’t listen to the naysayers. Don’t let your father, mother, husband, wife, brother, sister, in-laws, friends, neighbour, or a colleague “rob you of that faith in yourself that make things happen.” Remember God’s word; “All things are possible to him that believes.” Or as Steve Jobs said; “Do not let the noise of others’ opinions drawn out your own inner voice.” Don’t let anybody blow out the flames of your dreams with their unbelief and self-doubts…Yes self-doubts, as Kyle Maynard says; “when someone doubts you, they aren’t doubting you. They doubt themselves in your shoes.

  1. This is so true. Often its friends and family that are the quickest to tell you that you can’t do it and strangers who believe maybe you can! I love the song by Martina McBride that is “Do it anyway”
