How Do I Let Go?

We’ve been told, that to be truly happy in life, we need to let go of our past hurts, failures, disappointments, challenges, misfortunes, or whatever else that is holding us back. But many times a lot of us struggle with the feelings, and are unable to let go, maybe because we don’t know what it really means to let go of someone or a situation. In other to help deal with these struggles, I want to share the true meaning of Letting Go as defined by Charles R. Swindoll. I hope it helps us in our journey towards living our greatest lives:

To let go does not mean to stop caring; it means I can’t do it for someone else.

To let go is not to cut myself off, it’s the realization that I can’t control another

To let go is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural consequences.

To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in my hands.

To let go is not to try to change or blame another, I can only change myself.

To let go is not to care for, but to care about.

To let go is not to fix, but to be supportive.

To let go is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.

To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes, but to allow others to effect their own outcomes.

To let go is not to be protective; it is to permit another to face reality.

To let go is not to deny, but to accept.

To let go is not to nag, scold or argue, but to search out my own shortcomings and to correct them.

To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each day as it comes.

To let go is not to criticize and regulate any-one, but to try to become what dream I can be.

To let go is not to regret the past, but to grow and to live for the future.

To let go is to fear less and love more!

  1. Reblogged this on Shalom Merea (may, ray,ah) and commented:
“Letting go” has been a concept I have wrestled with often over the last eighteen months, in many varying forms. It is never easy, yet releasing our lives into the Lordship of our Father comes with a promise of peace not of this world. I share this article as it echoes some important truths as to what letting go means, and in some instances what it doesn’t mean. Thank you Vincent for sharing and I hope it offers some guidance in your daily walk…
