Negative Opinion is Poison

The journey towards success, or a better life is laced with many obstacles and challenges, but the one that stops many of us, is that conviction that our dreams and goals are beyond our reach. Many of us have been sold this lie. We have allowed the many suppressive and negative forces to direct our thoughts and aims toward mediocrity.

In the beginning of our lives it wasn’t always so. God created us with a charge to have dominion over all things. The scripture says we are called to be the head and not the tail. As children we all had great dreams and goals. Visit any primary school today, or talk to any young boy or girl, you will be surprised that they have plans to conquer the world, to attain important positions in life, to become famous and wealthy, to be Olympic champions and so on.

But when they become teens and young adults, the negative suppressive forces that stopped their parents begin to work on them, sometimes it is their own parents and older relatives who failed to act on their own lives that set out to lead these young lads into mediocrity.

They begin to tell them, it is foolish to be a dreamer, that their ideas are impractical, unachievable, stupid, naïve, foolish, doesn’t suit the times and the economy, or that they would need a terrible amount of money to go anywhere in life, or that “luck determines who gets ahead or you’ve got to have important friends,” or you’re “too old or too young.”

As a result of these, many people abandon their dreams and live in mediocrity, because they have been told it cannot be done. They forget that “the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones do.”

Folks always remember that the people who tell you it cannot be done almost always are unsuccessful people, are strictly average or mediocre at best in terms of accomplishment. The opinions’ of these people can be poison. Develop a defence against people who want to convince you that you can’t do it. Accept negative advice only as a challenge to prove that you can do it. Live your greatest life!

  1. Sometimes those negative responses incourages one to prove the other wrong. Haven’t you ever responded to the comment – “oh you’ll never do it” with “I’ll show you, oh yes I will!”

  2. Growing up, I would share ideas only to be told how difficult or expensive it would be to do so. And, before I started my own newspaper, I was told it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and that nobody reads them any more. My paper is now nearly six years old, robust of circulation and profitable. Thanks for the great piece on negative opinion. Like the old saying goes: whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.

  3. Very Good thoughts, my Dear Vincent! …In my life, I remember two small sentences that were spoken to me. One was, ‘Hitch Your wagon to a Star!’ encouraging me to aim high, and another, ‘You have leadership qualities.’ I have recalled them again and again, and have drawn strength from them. Wish More of Us would give Positives like these! Love and Regards.
