Be Still and Know

Some times people get to ask me, “don’t you get bored spending most of the time reading and writing or thinking?” when they find me doing those things. It then dawned on me that many people have that fear that is never talked about. – the fear of being bored. It affects both the young and old, they have the inability to sit still and be with themselves and meditate.

People often think that to be successful in life one must always be busy all the time. And if you are not very busy you are considered unsuccessful or unproductive. That is why many people become sad or even enter a state of depression when there is nothing to do. They have a need to do something, anything but sit still.

There is a reason for this fear. And there is a major benefit to all who can eliminate this deep inner fear programming. When you can eliminate this inner fear, you automatically become less agitated, irritable, anxious, stressed, nervous, and depressed. You automatically become able to be “in the moment” and in “present time”. You are able to focus and concentrate more easily. You become more at peace and gain inner peace and joy.

Try sitting still today and see the impact it will have in your life. Do you meditate or sit still and are not bored? Please share your experiences here.

  1. Great post, Vincent! I took my first “silent weekend” about a year ago. LIFE CHANGING! I had always been the “busy little bee” who couldn’t sit still and didn’t want to be alone with my thoughts…such a mess…but after challenging myself and spending that time away and learning to be with myself, with God, and with nature, now I CRAVE that quiet stillness. Again–great post!
