Many of us talk about the kind of life we want to live, the things we want to achieve, the places we want to be, the kind of relationships we want to have. For example, you may be reading this and you have been talking about being a successful entrepreneur, a bestselling author, a thought leader, a coach etc. while it is good to dream and talk about your dreams, here is a question for you, “What are you willing to give up, in order to have the life you keep saying you want?”
Two years ago I was asked that question, when I was struggling to become a speaker. I knew my higher purpose was to inspire others to live their best lives, but I was letting too many stuff get in the way. Then I met a mentor who asked me, Vincent what are you willing to give up, so that you can have the life you keep talking and dreaming about? In responding, I thought I had to only give up the bad habits, the things I didn’t love doing but he said, hey, that’s easy, you must also give up the things you love that are getting in the way of you following your dreams.
Folks your dreams require focused attention. So the reason why most of us haven’t reached that height we talk about is because we let too many stuff get in the way. Maybe like me you may have to really take a look at your lives and do some purging. What are you saying YES to that is making you say NO to your dream?
You see because most of us have been told in our churches and prayer meetings that the enemy of our progress is the Devil, the witches and wizards in our villages, the tendency is to always focus the negative habits alone. But on the contrary, it may be the things we love that are holding us down. Don’t let the good life get in the way of you having a great life. Don’t let the small fame and big boy status you are enjoying within your small circle get in the way of you being known nationally if that is your dream.
Knowing this, it’s time to let go of some things.
You can love your friends but you know deep down they are not helping you, so let them go
You can love to watch sports everytime but you know it is taking away your time for reading and planning, so let that go.
You can love hanging out and drinking, but you know you are always exhausted and lose concentration each time you get back home, so let it go.
You can love watching TV but you know it is taking from you valuable time, so let it go.
You can love chatting and spending time here on facebook, but you know you should have to spend time offline more working on your business, so let it go.
These are just a few examples, yours may not be any of these, but until you let whatever it is holding you back go, you may never go forward. Remember those things and people may be good, but why settle for a good life when you can have a great life?
I hope this inspires you to live your best life.
