How to Move Away From Mediocrity

I had an interaction with someone recently, and when I asked him why he had to indulge in some of the things he was into, he responded that he was enjoying his youth now that he is still long because that phase won’t last long.

Thinking about what he said, I realized just how many people, both young and old have this view – wasting their lives and term it “enjoyment” or “pleasure” or “flexing.” The truth is if you live right and constantly improve yourself, you will enjoy life every day as long as you live.

That people, especially young people should waste their time on cheap and senseless pleasure, and that old people should live a dejected and uninteresting life is an idea that doesn’t belong in this age of information and technology advancement.

Strive to use your time well while you are young and you will stay young, and better more, you will become something and someone of impact in our world. The question you should ask is not whether you shouldn’t enjoy yourself, rather ask yourself whether it is okay to remain in mediocrity, with nothing but common pleasures, when it is possible for you to live your greatest life and have the best of what your world can offer.

Here are a few steps you can take to move away from mediocrity:

1. Decide today to improve yourself learn as many skills as your time and ability permit. It’s been said that if you want to double your income, triple your investment in yourself and professional development.

2. Associate only with the successful, the industrious and the aspiring individuals. They people you associate with have a marked influence on your life. If they are pessimistic, believing in nothing but poverty, failure and injustice, you will have nothing to gain but much to lose in that relationship. But there is no reason why you should keep such relationships. There are 7.4 billion people on earth for you to have a problem finding positive people.

3. Have faith in yourself. It is better to overrate than to underrate yourself. Know that you can succeed; and such speak and act accordingly. Expect great things of yourself, and hold those expectations until they are realized. When you are going through dark times, experiencing hardship, know that better moments are just around the corner, when the sun will shine again.

4. Make it a point to never think or talk about failure or adversity. Be determined to succeed, and don’t permit yourself to think otherwise no matter what you are going through today. When things are going in a direction that isn’t the one you desire, instead of quitting remember the phrase; “this too shall pass.” And God’s word says, He will keep you in perfect peace when you keep your mind focused on God.

  1. I have got to say this is an amazing post. I am 26 years old and I am so glad I have perfected my craft and am my own boss now. I go to the gym, read books and socialise with successful people. My time is so valuable that negative don’t last in it. You can’t help somebody who won’t help them self. Now I know I will never be mediocre for the rest of my life.
