The Types Of People You Don’t Need In Your Life, If You Must Succeed

Photo credit: flickr.com

We need people in our lives. No one can make it alone that is why there has never been a rich hermit. But in order for you to become successful, to make your dreams come true and to live your greatest life, you must stay away from certain persons.

There are certain people who hinder others and make it harder for others to live. They are DISCOURAGERS. Instead of being wings to enable you fly, they are weights that will pull you down. They never have any positive, cheerful, hopeful word for anyone. Instead they always find a way to kill your spirits, kill your hopes, and put clouds into clear skies.

These individuals seem to think that it is a sin to be happy themselves, or to encourage happiness in others. They find all the shadows in life and persist in walking in them. They magnify small issues into big troubles.

These kind of people are always gloomy themselves and so they send out darkness and never brightness to others wherever they go. They make life harder for those they associate with or influence. Instead of comforting you, they make sorrows harder to bear, because they exaggerate it and blot out all the stars of hope that God has sent to shine in our world.

You cannot succeed when you are surrounded by discouragers. Stay away from them. Reduce the time you spend with them if you cannot completely leave them. They make your burdens appear heavier because by their discouraging words, they instil fear and weaken in you. Continue reading The Types Of People You Don’t Need In Your Life, If You Must Succeed

Daily Wisdom: Practice The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule says Do unto others, as you want them to do unto you. The word DO actually means more than do, it also means think about, wish for etc. So think about others, wish for others and do to and for others what you want them to think about you, wish for you and do for or to you!

Whatever you think about, wish for and do to others you will in time receive yourself! Many times we forget this when we treat others poorly and because the results of our thoughts and actions don’t come back to us instantly, we often blame the devil and fate or bad luck for all the negative things happening in our lives, when actually it is the golden rule at play.

Let the golden rule guide your thoughts, wishes and actions toward others. So love your enemies. Praise your enemies. Ask God to bless your enemies with all the things you want God to bless you with.

Jesus said, what you do unto the least of my brethren; that you do unto me. Think about that. Life can be easy. Feel joy everyday no matter what and without exception. Feel unconditional love, appreciation, understanding, acceptance and compassion for everyone without exception. Continue reading Daily Wisdom: Practice The Golden Rule

You Don’t Have Any Friends Until You Are Faced With Difficulty Yet

Back in the day one Nigerian musician sang, “when the going is smooth and good, many, many people will be your friends…they will call you many names, they will say they love you, they will say they need you, they will say you are great and so on and so forth.” Agreeing with the old saying that success has many friends.

I bet there are many of you who at some point or the other experienced having many friends when the going was good for you. People don’t often appreciate adversity, most people never believe that everything that happens to us no matter how bad it may appear has some good embedded in it. And one of the good things about adversity or setbacks is that it reveals to us who our true friends are.

Many of us will realize when we are hit by some sudden misfortune that those people we called friends when we were doing so good were actually acquaintances who our successes, jobs or businesses attracted to us as you will indeed be very lucky if you still have a handful of real friends during those periods. If you want to know who your true friends are during challenging periods, ask them for help. Continue reading You Don’t Have Any Friends Until You Are Faced With Difficulty Yet

MOTHERS WANTED!

I visited the home of a senior friend of mine whom I hold in very high esteem once and the behaviour and attitude of his young children really marvelled me. I couldn’t help but imagine how a polite, humble man with good character will raise children that are such opposites of him in terms of their behaviour and attitude.

As I kept pondering on the kids behaviours, I asked myself what could be missing? Obviously the children attend very good schools they have good Christian parents who are working quite hard to provide them a great future, they have house helps and Nannies to attend to them, and just then it occurred to me, that the kids lack a mother.

You see while their mother was in the house, she wasn’t so much in their lives. She loves them care for them, provide for them, but these kids still in their formative years are being raised by the house helps. It then reminded me of the words of an ancient Greek philosopher, who once said, “Give your child to be educated by a slave, and instead of one slave, you will have two.”

I have heard parents react to a child misbehaviour or utterance of a negative word by asking the child, “Who taught you that, because it’s definitely not from me?” children learn through modelling and imitating. They model their gestures, their speech, their habits, their character after those of the people close to them. So if you want your child to have a good character, present him with a good model, and the model that should be constantly before the child is the mother. Continue reading MOTHERS WANTED!

A Fathers Advice to His Child

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;

If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, Continue reading A Fathers Advice to His Child

Use Your Words to Build, Not to Destroy

Some people are constantly looking for opportunities to criticize and complain about others. Nothing is ever good in their eyes. I meet some of these people most of the time, they complain about the weather, the traffic, the food and so on. Recently I attended a wedding and sat close to one of these folks and in spite of the many good things one could say about a wedding, this guy kept pointing out things he didn’t like about the wedding as if he contributed a dime to the wedding.

I believe that even the worst circumstances we can always find many good things to talk about if we look for them. Your spouse isn’t bad all the time; children don’t misbehave all the time; your boss isn’t bossy all the time. Let us learn to develop the habit of looking for the best in people and in every situation we find ourselves in.

Always look for something good to praise and endorse. Look for the best around you and think good thoughts about others, knowing that your thoughts always yield results after their kind. If you want to see good in your life, think good thoughts about yourself and others. Moreover the habit of constantly seeking for the good in others and praising them will uplift our own spirits.
