Today it has become so natural for us to blame our mistakes and failures, ill health, unfavourable circumstances and conditions, our unhappiness and our disappointments in all the walks of life on “fate!” How prone we are to attribute our ills and failures to some external factor or cause, when the real cause lies within ourselves!
This is simply because we have become so used to thinking that the causes which control and shape our lives are external and such as can be measured by the physical senses. We have become so used to considering everything from a material standpoint—perceiving only that which can be weighed in the balance of human intelligence or measured with scales and metre rule that we have actually grown into the belief that the things which govern our lives and control our destiny are external.
We have been conditioned to live a material life, and have become grossly in materialism, that we have lost sight almost entirely of the higher, spiritual and more potential forces by and through which our lives and our destinies are controlled.
In this new year, too many people still believe in fate and horoscopes. They believe that what will be, will be and they don’t have control over how the year will turn out to be. Folks from my standpoint, there is no such thing as “fate” and nothing ever “happens.” Scientists, psychologists, and even the Bible show that to a greater extent, the cause of whatever comes to any person lies within the person. Before 1954, it was believed that no runner could ever break the four – minute mile barrier. But after Roger Bannister broke it, many more replicated his feat – within weeks. Why? Because he showed people what was possible. They got a new reference point. And then armed with that belief, people did the impossible.
Do you have a four – minute mile barrier in your own life? What lie have you bought about what is impossible for you? What false assumptions are you making about what you cannot have, be or do? The bible says, as a man thinks in his heart so he is. Your thinking creates your reality.
Jesus said, all things are possible for the person who believes. What do you believe about your life and your achievements? Your beliefs are self-fulfilling prophecies; if you believe you can’t make it, you won’t; if you believe that you will never become rich, you won’t. Because your beliefs drive your actions and you will always act in accordance to your beliefs. Continue reading What’s Your Four-Minute Mile Barrier?→
A friend shared a story about the oak tree and the wind with me recently, and it has so many life lessons we all can learn from so I have decided to share with you also; A mighty wind blew night and day. It stole the oak tree’s leaves away. Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark, until the oak was tired and stark. But still the oak tree held its ground, while other trees fell all around. The weary wind gave up and spoke, “How can you still be standing, Mister Oak?” The oak tree said, “I know that you can break each branch of mine in two, carry every leaf away, shake my limbs, and make me sway. But I have roots stretched in the earth, growing stronger and stronger since my birth. You’ll never touch them, for you see, they are the very deepest part of me. Until today, I was not sure, of just how much I could endure. But now I’ve found, with thanks to you, I’m so much stronger than I ever knew!” Continue reading Don’t Let Life Break You→
Several years ago three young men who were among the ruling class of the most powerful nation on earth at the time, stood up against the decision of the most powerful ruler on earth even when the consequences were dire; their crime was considered treason and as the constitution at the time stated, they were to be put to death without trial yet they were unfazed and held their grounds even in the face of death.
In the book of Daniel we are told about the trio of Shedrach Meshach and Abednego who told the king, to hell with his laws and the position they occupied if it meant they had to compromise, concede or sell their faith and their belief in God. They would rather face death….a gruesome one at that than bow to a graven image. They believed their God would save them but if for any reason he didn’t they still wouldn’t bow.
How many of us can stand by our resolves and true conviction? In today’s world many of us Christians are entering into agreements, contracts against our moral code because we are guaranteed dollars and power. We join the rest of the world in accepting behaviours that clearly contradict our calling and purpose. We join associations where our faith is outlawed and suppressed in the name of gaining good social standing. Continue reading Stand Up For What is Right→

That job is highly personal. Doubters are always in the majority and he along the race course of life to whet the ambitions of the stout hearted.
If you are a Christian, you’ve probably read or heard about the story of the man by the pool of Bethesda whom cried healed after being paralysed for over 38 years. Now before Christ got to heal him, He asked the man if he wanted to be made whole.
This man in answering started out talking about his condition, blaming it on his parents, Siblings, Uncles, Aunties, Friends and other associates, who have abandoned him, who will not help him get into the pool. The point I want us to see is, for 38 years that man remained where he was, not because there wasn’t any solution, but because he felt he needed someone to get him into the pool. He sat there whining and complaining to anyone who cared to listen about how terrible his family is, how they haven’t been supportive of him and all.
Now unfortunately many of you are acting like that man. You think your family hate you; you think your dad or uncle has to do something for you. You are where you are because you are waiting for daddy, mummy, uncle or that brother to assist you. The truth is brother/sister you will continue to be a failure if you don’t change your thinking. What is a miracle? One dictionary defines it as “any amazing or wonderful occurrence”, or “a marvellous event manifesting a supernatural act of a divine agent.” I guess many of us would accept these definitions or have definitions closer or similar to these. As a young Christian boy, I use to crave after miracles, signs and wonders. I like attending events that blind people received their sights, the deaf heard, the cripple walked, and people with terrible sicknesses healed. These to me are miracles – according to the world, something unexplainable; amazing; wonderful; divine; supernatural.
The scripture tells us God daily loads us with benefits (miracles, blessings). Every day that passes we experience a miracle, but we never notice them since we expect miracles to be spectacular, grand, supernatural, unexplainable and so on. Sometimes our miracles and blessings are intangible, so we don’t pay attention to them. A miracle doesn’t have to be amazing; the favours we receive unsolicited for are miracles. The times you run the red light, or over speed and you are not given a ticket is a miracle. Many times when we tell the stories about our lives, we talk about the challenges, the obstacles and the sorrows we faced, the number of disappointments we have faced, the many cold nights we passed, the much heartbreaks we have suffered, we forget to mention, notice, recognize the source of the strength to out-last those sorrows. We came out of those events unbroken, when there are others who suffered less of what we faced, yet never survived it. Continue reading What is a Miracle?→
