Some of you are always talking about your past; your past achievements; your past successes; your past relationship and marriages. Meaning that nothing really grand is happening to you now or in the future. When you look at your future you do so with the eyes of fear and worry, thinking that you have lived your best years and achieved your best successes in the past.

Folks if this is the case with you, cheer up and never worry because an old Italian proverb says, “Do not worry. When God shuts a door, He opens a window.” Your past isn’t your best. The relationship you just lost isn’t going to be your last nor isn’t going to be your fondest.

Stop looking back in regret of your mistakes and inaction…yes you made the mistakes but there still opportunities ahead for you in the future. In my own life I have done so many mistakes too that I thought my life would never move ahead. I have also experienced good times too, but I know that I have more years ahead of me filled with great opportunities for me to take – same also with you. Continue reading Better Days Ahead!

Don’t Forget to Forget!

“This one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – St. Paul.

Many of us are still brooding over the past. We are still weeping over that lost relationship; that lost job, that misfortune; that death; that betrayal; those wrong words we said; those things we failed to do that led us into failure and so on. But folks brooding over the past, however foolish, devastating, painful it has been is unhelpful and a complete waste of strength and opportunities of the present.

There is an old Japanese proverb that says, “My skirt with tears is always wet, I have forgotten to forget.” Unfortunately today, many of us have forgotten to forget and that is why our lives aren’t growing and we are still experiencing difficulties. If this is the case with you, adopt the attitude of St. Paul who forgot the things that were in the past behind him, whether they were mistakes, disappointments, and failures or they were achievements and success. “Remember you not the former things, neither consider the things of old.” A lot of us are being haunted by our past. We allow our previous actions, decisions, and misfortunes control our present and shape our future. Take for instance; you had a bad relationship or marriage, and this won’t allow you to move on, to trust again and allow your heart to find love. We keep asking ourselves, what if my heart is broken again. What if I am incapable of giving love and so on? Or maybe you grew up in an unsupportive environment, and you were told you won’t amount to anything, and these thoughts are getting you disillusioned, and you can’t see a brighter future, you can’t seem to see yourself rising above where you are at the moment.

There isn’t anyone without a past, for some of us our past may be very horrible, but everyone who has ever succeeded in life, have had to rise above his or her past. They took these words to heart; “Remember you not the former things, neither consider the things of old”. If you keep remembering the hurts, failures, and tragedies of the past, you will be held back by them. Don’t let your past define you, destroy you, deter you, or stop you from living your greatest life.

You may be reading this and say, Vincent you don’t know how it hurts me, how it embarrassed me, you don’t know the pain I feel in losing a beloved one, but you see tragedies, failures, sicknesses, setbacks, do happen in everyone’s life, we can discover the reason, blame others, imagine how different our lives would be had they not occurred. But none of that is important: they did occur, and so be it. From there onward we must put aside the fear that they awoke in us, untie the chains we’ve been tied with and begin to rebuild our lives.
