Relationships are like your bank accounts. The amounts of money inside increases as per the deposit you make into it.
While we cannot withdraw from a bank account lacking funds, so many of us are taking from our relationships without taking time to give back into it.
“If you want your relationships to thrive, you must invest in them by being a giver rather than a taker.” – Joel Osteen
How To Make Deposits Into Your Relationships
1- Making deposits can be something as simple as taking time to hug or shake hands when greeting people.
2- Smiling: a simple smile could go a long way in filling your relationship accounts – it tells people you acknowledge them, you are friendly, and that you are a pleasant person.
3- When you compliment a person you are making a deposit; Tell a colleague or co-worker , “That was an outstanding presentation.” “You did a great job”. Tell your partners and spouses, “I appreciate what you do for me”. At home take time to kiss and hug your partner and kids, telling them how much you love them.
4- Appreciate people and always say thank you; take time to let someone know you care. Bosses; just because someone works for you doesn’t mean you are exempt from expressing appreciation to that person. Men; your partners and wives can never hear you say too many times “You are beautiful”. “I think you are great.” “I am glad you are in my life.”
5- Always try to over look a fault: When somebody is rude to you, instead of retaliating, you let it go and forgive. If you want to build life long loyal friendships and build trust, learn to protect your family members and friends even when they make mistakes. (This is not to say we are to condone evil or cover up intentional wrong doing) Genuine love overlooks faults, and makes allowances for mistakes
6- Accept responsibility: when things go bad don’t shift blame, and look for whom to sacrifice.
How We Make Withdrawals From Our Relationships
1- Through selfish behaviours; we think only about what we want and need
2- We make withdrawals when we do not take time for people; for example you enter into an environment, and you just walk past people being rude, not smiling or even noticing them
3- We make withdrawals when we do not forgive, when we do not keep our commitments with our loved ones.
4- When we do not express appreciation to someone when it is due
5- We make withdrawals when we embarrass or belittle people when we correct them. We should never make people feel small or unintelligent for having attempted something great and failing.
Folks people would always be good to you when you do good things for them. Most times we sit and complain about our partners, and how we expect them to do this or that for us. Life doesn’t work that way. you first plant before you harvest. Rather than trying to figure out what somebody can do for you, start looking for things that you can do for them.
