Africans believe in tribes, and most tribes have their own marks and customs for their members. So you find that certain people from a certain tribe act and do things in a particular way…the tribal way. I see this attitude in most of us. We do things because everyone else does them; because it is the norm; because it is tradition. But you see, great people don’t behave this way. they don’t do things because everyone else does them, they do the things that are right for them. They think different and act different.
Everyone who has ever impacted this world positively was different. Think of Einstein, Edison, Picasso, Beethoven, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Gandhi, Mandela…they all personified these quotes:
“Read every day something no one else is reading. Think every day something no one else is thinking. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.” – Christopher Morley
“It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.” – Emerson
“If you follow the crowd, the place you will most likely end up at is the exit.” – Robin Sharma
“Take the course opposite to custom, you will almost always do well.” – Jean Jacques Rousseau
“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” – Think Different. – Steve Jobs
