The journey towards success, or a better life is laced with many obstacles and challenges, but the one that stops many of us, is that conviction that our dreams and goals are beyond our reach. Many of us have been sold this lie. We have allowed the many suppressive and negative forces to direct our thoughts and aims toward mediocrity.
In the beginning of our lives it wasn’t always so. God created us with a charge to have dominion over all things. The scripture says we are called to be the head and not the tail. As children we all had great dreams and goals. Visit any primary school today, or talk to any young boy or girl, you will be surprised that they have plans to conquer the world, to attain important positions in life, to become famous and wealthy, to be Olympic champions and so on.
But when they become teens and young adults, the negative suppressive forces that stopped their parents begin to work on them, sometimes it is their own parents and older relatives who failed to act on their own lives that set out to lead these young lads into mediocrity.
They begin to tell them, it is foolish to be a dreamer, that their ideas are impractical, unachievable, stupid, naïve, foolish, doesn’t suit the times and the economy, or that they would need a terrible amount of money to go anywhere in life, or that “luck determines who gets ahead or you’ve got to have important friends,” or you’re “too old or too young.” Continue reading Negative Opinion is Poison→
Michael Jordan once said; “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. “ The reason why many of us are not living the life of our dreams is because we don’t follow this advice. When we face a challenge, or encounter an obstacle on our path, we turn around and give up. Many of us give up after just one attempt: You flunk an exam and you conclude you will never pass that course, so you give up. You have a wonderful business idea which fails to give you the anticipated results, so you conclude it will never work. You are having difficulties in your marriage, instead of fighting for it, and exhausting all your options, you take the easy way out – divorce. Many have taken their own lives as a result of not being able to face the obstacles on their paths. Too many times we conclude that we are not qualified; we are not good enough; we don’t have the talents and resources necessary to get what we once dreamed about, just because we failed after just one shot.
Sometimes in life you may have to fight a battle, face an obstacle, struggle with a disease or a negative event more than once to win it. The scriptures tell us to study ants, and learn from them. As tiny as those creatures are, they are really amazing. The ants believe there is always a way, and they go all out to make one. No matter how large the obstacle you place on the path of the ants, they don’t give up, they don’t turn their backs and go back home. Rather they focus on how to overcome the obstacle, they may be delayed, but they are never stopped. They work around the obstacle by trying to push it aside, if that doesn’t work, they try to climb over it, if that also fails, they try to go under it and if that fails too, they think of walking around the obstacles. They do anything but go back home. Continue reading Obstacles Don’t Have to Stop You→
