Don’t Pray That It Be Easy: Strive!

Are you looking for the easy life? Lots of folks are looking for the easy path to success and money making. Folks this world is not easy, the only place that is easy is the grave!

As a coach, I meet people who say, “if a successful life were easy I would live it.” “If in this world there were not so many things to upset and tempt me, if I was born within a rich family or in a country that is conducive and supports my aspirations, if my parents, or my brothers or my children were consecrated to pure and holy ideals, I too would have been successful. But it is impossible for people like me to make it, considering all we have to up against.”

Some even go ahead with their defence and excuses, by pointing at people who have committed suicide, to the number of people who are failing in their aspirations, who are living in poverty as evidence of life’s failure and disaster. They point to those who have been subdued and held back by life’s setbacks and adversities. Continue reading Don’t Pray That It Be Easy: Strive!

Having a Bad Day? God’s Got You

We all have our discouraged days, when things do not go well. Your children come back home failing lessons at school even after studying hard and having really done their best, in fact you even helped them through their studies. Or as a mother you fail in your household work; the children are so hard to control.

Or maybe you have been wronged or angered and try as you could, you having difficulty being gentle, kind and patient with the world around you. Or maybe you return home after a long day at work, unhappy, disturbed, defeated or discouraged. You have done your best, but you feel that you have failed.

Life is not always easy for anyone who strives to live at their best. Work is hard; challenges are heavy; responsibility is great. Life’s competition is fierce, there are people trying to pull at you from every corner.

It is hard to live blissfully amid the irritations that touch continually at most tender points. It is hard to live lovingly and charitably when you see so much inequity and wrong, and sometimes you must yourself endure hate and injustice from people around you. Daily Wisdom: Lack Doesn’t Make You Poor

A person isn’t someone who has little but a person who wants lots of things they don’t have and feel bad about that fact. Most people think about security in terms of what they have; their house, job, investments, savings, family etc.

But true security comes from God. When you realize you can lose everything, and still have that inner joy, then you have the ultimate sense of security, peace and freedom. When your security is on the money or things you have, your security is lost the moments those things are gone. Cant you see how many people get depressed, take their own lives when the financial markets tumble, or when their other treasures get lost.

Today put your security in God. When you do, all illusions and fears leave you, you become blissful and totally free!

Rise Above Your Setbacks

6076393459_f7433bf0db_bMany people look at me now and think I have always had an easy life. Some folks from the same poor community I am from think maybe I never knew suffering. But the reality is I have seen much more suffering that many people ever imagine. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon or with any spoon at all. The story of my life begins at my birth in a yam barn – imagine that!

As a kid I have been shoeless and shirtless like many village kids. Of course I have tasted the good life also growing up, but the part of my life that is laced with struggles and sufferings are more than that section that was filled with the good.

Stop giving in to your circumstances. Your challenges and circumstances don’t define you, it is how you choose to react or respond to them that determines where you end up in life. I attended village schools, I experienced delays in finishing both my secondary and university education, but I never let those delays held me back.

You Are Made For Greatness!

William Shakespeare, once said “Some men are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” But I do believe we all were born great. One of the greatest lies of the world is the belief that greatness, wealth, prosperity, success, is the exclusive reserve of a few individuals, while the rest of the world would just struggle along living mediocre lives with the aim of just trying to make a living.

There are some people who strongly believe that most humans must remain poor, that we are made to be poor. But there was neither poverty nor lack in the plans of God for man when He created us. Continue reading You Are Made For Greatness!

How Does Wealth Affect You?

There is no doubt so many of us are affected by our successes or failures in life. I hear people tell me “I know what it is like to be poor”, or “I have been rich before and lost it”, but you see it really don’t matter much whether you have had wealth or poverty; whether you have experienced failure or success at a certain point in your life. What really matters is how that poverty or wealth affected you.

If that trial or deprivation made you a better, honest, nobler, loving, focused person, then, your poverty has been riches, failure has been a success. On the other hand, if your wealth has made you a vain, arrogant, contemptuous, uncharitable, Continue reading How Does Wealth Affect You?

You May be Poor!

The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:

I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

“Meaningless! Meaningless!”
    says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
    Everything is meaningless.”

All things are wearisome,
    more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.

What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

Is there anything of which one can say,
    “Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.

Who is a poor person? Often we consider a person poor, if he lacks the basic things of life. When we think of poverty, we often think of the faces we see in our TV screens, begging for food, for water, for clothes…we think of the homeless, the jobless, the ones living in war ravaged countries…the “third world” inhabitants. But does having little make you poor?

A wise man once said; “A poor person is not someone who has little…he is the person who wants lots of things he does not have and feel bad about that fact!” Continue reading You May be Poor!

Is it Wrong to be Rich?

A lot has been said about wealth and poverty…often in praise of poverty and lack. But is poverty the way to salvation? Can poverty save lives? I believe that the notion that wealth is wrong is more social than scriptural. But this philosophy and way of thinking has been with us throughout the ages. Will the fact that this perception has been accepted by a majority of us now make it true? I don’t think so. I don’t think there is anything wrong in desiring to be rich.

Wallace Wattles felt the same way too, when he wrote in his classic “The science of getting rich”; “Whatever maybe said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. No man can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money, for to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with…and society is so organized that man must have money in order to become the possessor of things…” that make life easy.

I believe there is nothing wrong to be rich or desiring to be rich. And before you begin to wonder why, I know what it is to live in poverty, to be called POOR. I know what it is like to eat one meal a day…and drink water to “fill up the space”. I know what it is like to drink water from the same source you bath and wash your clothes in. I know what it feels like to live at the mercies of others, and always wear handed down clothes…to trek kilometres to school, and owing just one set of worn out school uniforms. I know what it is like to not have, and always wishing the next person you meet will show compassion on you and give you a note. Continue reading Is it Wrong to be Rich?

Rise Above Your Limitations

Many of us have been trained from infancy to think small thoughts. Our minds have been saturated with the thoughts of poverty, lack, scarcity, limitations etc. And if you are from, or live in my part of the world, then you hear talks of poverty and limitation from morning till night, you see poverty-stricken conditions everywhere. Everybody around is talking limitation, scarcity, lack, diseases, failure. Little wonder there is so much lack and want around.

Folks, let’s break this bond. Do not repeat the poverty and limiting conditions of your parents, families, and environments. It starts with the belief, with developing a positive mental attitude. No matter how black the outlook or how rusty your environment is, positively refuse to see anything that is unfavourable to you. Refuse to see the obstacles. Refuse to see any condition which wants to enslave you, and keep you from rising above your environment, and keep you from living your greatest life!

Remember, “The man who is bound to win, believes he is going to be prosperous; he starts with the understanding with himself that he is going to be a successful man. A winner and not a loser.”

Have faith. The Bible says; “…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there’, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
