Are you looking for the easy life? Lots of folks are looking for the easy path to success and money making. Folks this world is not easy, the only place that is easy is the grave!

As a coach, I meet people who say, “if a successful life were easy I would live it.” “If in this world there were not so many things to upset and tempt me, if I was born within a rich family or in a country that is conducive and supports my aspirations, if my parents, or my brothers or my children were consecrated to pure and holy ideals, I too would have been successful. But it is impossible for people like me to make it, considering all we have to up against.”

Some even go ahead with their defence and excuses, by pointing at people who have committed suicide, to the number of people who are failing in their aspirations, who are living in poverty as evidence of life’s failure and disaster. They point to those who have been subdued and held back by life’s setbacks and adversities. Continue reading Don’t Pray That It Be Easy: Strive!

Your Challenges Hold Your Blessings.

In my life I have come to discover that some of the most difficult challenges I face, the decisions with the most risk I have to take—those things that I would rather not do, that will take the most effort, cause the most pain, and be the greatest struggle—bring a blessing with it. And every time I refuse to do them, I miss the blessing.

Some of us have been called to walk difficult paths in life, we have been given challenging callings and life missions. Many of us have been labelled “Useless”, “Joker”, “Unserious”, “Air- castle builders” and many other names. Folks when God calls you into challenging, unpopular, even laughable life missions and purposes, He often prepares unquestionable, and undeniable blessings for you in the end. But these blessings you will never receive unless you travel the steep, risky, crazy, thorny paths of life.

Never Mind How Long It Takes!

“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake…” – 2 Peter 3:9

There are times when it looks like God doesn’t answer prayers, we are faced with troubles and needs from every side yet with no hope of meeting them. Do you ever feel this way? In my own life I experience these things. There are days when it seems that God is just so far away, while I am here with so many needs. There are days when all the doors just shut, and no key seem to unlock them. There are times when you just question if really God called you, if you are on the right track, when things just keep going wrong around you, when it seems like the enemy is winning the war. But God is there…watching!

I believe the disciples must have felt this way too when the winds were tearing their boat apart, they were wailing and shouting…really confused, but Christ was lying there in the midst of the confusion, just watching! Sometimes we get confused, and interpret God’s silence, and delayed answer to prayers to mean abandonment, or passive agreement to the enemy’s attack on us Continue reading Never Mind How Long It Takes!

Obstacles Don’t Have to Stop You

Michael Jordan once said; “Obstacles don’t have to stop you.  If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up.  Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. “ The reason why many of us are not living the life of our dreams is because we don’t follow this advice. When we face a challenge, or encounter an obstacle on our path, we turn around and give up. Many of us give up after just one attempt: You flunk an exam and you conclude you will never pass that course, so you give up. You have a wonderful business idea which fails to give you the anticipated results, so you conclude it will never work. You are having difficulties in your marriage, instead of fighting for it, and exhausting all your options, you take the easy way out – divorce. Many have taken their own lives as a result of not being able to face the obstacles on their paths. Too many times we conclude that we are not qualified; we are not good enough; we don’t have the talents and resources necessary to get what we once dreamed about, just because we failed after just one shot.

Sometimes in life you may have to fight a battle, face an obstacle, struggle with a disease or a negative event more than once to win it. The scriptures tell us to study ants, and learn from them. As tiny as those creatures are, they are really amazing. The ants believe there is always a way, and they go all out to make one. No matter how large the obstacle you place on the path of the ants, they don’t give up, they don’t turn their backs and go back home. Rather they focus on how to overcome the obstacle, they may be delayed, but they are never stopped. They work around the obstacle by trying to push it aside, if that doesn’t work, they try to climb over it, if that also fails, they try to go under it and if that fails too, they think of walking around the obstacles. They do anything but go back home. Continue reading Obstacles Don’t Have to Stop You

If You have Lemons, Make Lemonade

“When you have a lemon, make lemonade” I believe most of us have heard and read those words in so many places. But how often do we apply them in our lives?

It’s really easy for you to give up, to be beaten, to whine and rail against the world, and say you haven’t got a chance when life hands you lemons, when every step towards your goal and dreams is fraught with challenges and set-backs. But remember the words of St. Paul; “And we know all things work together for good to them that love God…” Bearing this in mind, we can look for the lessons to learn from every misfortune. We can ask; how can I improve my situation? How can I turn this lemon to lemonade?

The impact a challenge, misfortune, set-back has on us, is based on our perception of the situation. You see, two people can be faced with the same circumstance, but each perceive and represent it differently. A story was told of how two men looked from their prison bars, one saw the mud, while the other saw the stars.

Friends, with the right mental attitude, we can transform even the most wretched and negative circumstance into the most exciting adventure of our lives. Let us learn to look for the stars, let’s find the gold in every negative situation that confronts us. Remember, “The best things are the most difficult.” Looking for the gold in everything, looking for ways to turn your lemons into lemonade, can help you launch into greatness. Hear the words of Charles Darwin (Originator of the theory of evolution); “If I had not been so great an invalid, I should not have done so much work as I have accomplished.” Even your disabilities can be a blessing, if you look beyond the obvious.

“The most important thing in life is not to capitalize on your gains. Any fool can do that. The really important thing is to profit from your losses. That requires intelligence; and it makes the difference between a man of sense and a fool.” – William Bolitho
