Stand Up and Live

The reason why many of us are stuck in slow growth is we don’t have the courage to follow our dreams. A lot of folks, even though they claim to be independent and think their thoughts are actually walking robots. You are waiting for your Dad, or mum, or Uncle to decide what you should become in life.

I meet people who tell me they don’t want to offend their folks by going after their dreams. Some think they don’t know what’s good for them, so they live their lives; take up careers; enter relationships based on the recommendations and validation of other people.

Unfortunately I haven’t read, seen, or heard about anyone who made an impact, lived happily and at peace with himself by doing and being the person designed by others. Even Christ Himself proved this to others when He told His Mother (Mary) who was looking for Him, “I must go about the business of my Heavenly Father.”

Greatness is knowing your purpose, pursuing it stubbornly and aggressively. Some of you follow the trends of circumstances in the society instead of trending yourself.  Folks, “He who relies on circumstances to bring him what he desires, will only receive from circumstances the things he doesn’t desire.”

Stopping living your life waiting for some sudden wind of good luck to blow good opportunities for you…you will wait all your life and nothing tangible may show up. To get anything worthwhile from life, you must go after, keep chasing until you hunt them down. Remember the people who eat real food are those who sit on the table. If you hide under the table you will be getting the crumbs if any fall of from the plate of the eaters.

Stop wasting your life thinking you don’t want to hurt your parents or guardians feelings by disobeying them if you go after your dreams. Unquestioned obedience is only expected from babies, not young adults or adults like. Believe me from, my experience in life, your family will respect you the day tell them no, and set about going after your dreams.

I look at my life, as a first child in family my parents naturally expected me to stay around, doing family business and providing guidance to my siblings. But following that part will mean giving up on my purpose. Yes I would’ve had access to better finances, but it would have made me become comfortable with mediocrity.

It wasn’t an easy decision to tell my parents my mission, but whether they tell me or not, deep down I know they respect me for being disobedient once. Now I am pursuing my dreams. Is it easy for me? NO. Is it challenging? YES. Am I happy and fulfilled? YES. Have I achieved the successes yet? No, but the process, the journey, the lessons and experiences, I can’t trade for whatever comforts I am not having.

“The boy or girl who passively submits every question, or decision to his parents or family, is a source of comfort as a baby, but a source of humiliation as a man or woman….Life is ruthless. It rides over and grinds to dust every person who cannot stand up for himself/herself.”

Dare to live your greatest life!

  1. As parents we are called by Scripture to raise our children in the Way THEY SHOULD GO,not the way we want them to go. Unfortunately that is not how any families work. Not every parent applauds a child’s independence. Sometimes in pursuing dreams we have to acknowledge that the relational price may be high. Always count the cost because it does figure in.
